We test nearly every type of cannabis products, including (but not limited to):

  • Flower
  • Concentrates
  • Edibles
  • Topicals
  • Tinctures

According to the WSLCB WAC 314-55-101, the licensee must select a minimum of four separate samples from each flower lot up to 5 pounds. The flower lot is to be divided into quadrants of four equal parts, and the four separate samples must be taken from different quadrants. The samples are required to be a minimum of 1 gram each. The four separate samples may be placed in the same container and submitted for testing.

The lab may reject samples that are less than 4 grams or do not contain four individual pieces of flower. Adulterated or manipulated samples may be rejected or failed.

PPM → %
10,000 ppm / 1,000,000 ppm = 1%
25,350 ppm / 10,000 ppm = 2.535%

% → mg/g
1,000 mg = 1 g
10 mg / 1 g = 1%
.87% * 10  = 8.7 mg/g

Samples should be taken in a sanitary environment using sanitary practices. Persons collecting the sample must wash their hands prior to collection, wear appropriate gloves during selection, and use sanitary utensils and storage devices.

Food safe plastic bags work well for flower and small vials or jars with lids to hold concentrates and infused mixes are the easiest containers for us to work with.

All mandatory compliance samples are required to be labeled with the following information:

  • Business Name
  • License Number
  • QA Sample ID Number
  • Sample Weight
  • Sample Collection Date
  • Lab Name
  • Lab License Number

The short answer is: it depends on the type of failure. See the WSLCB’s Retest for Failed Inventory Lots to assess whether or not a retest is allowed for your particular failure type.

Moisture retests occur when a sample is greater than 15% weight by water or has a Water Activity (aw) or greater than .65. Moisture retests are typically granted.

Microbial failures for Gram (-) Enterobacterae occur when more than 10,000 cfu/g are detected on flower samples, and retests are granted if the failure is less than double the failure limit. If a sample fails for E. Coli or Salmonella retests are not permitted.
